All About Goats

At long last, a book that unabashedly embraces the eccentricities of our four-legged friends! "All About Goats" by Lois Hetherington is that rare specimen of literature where the bleat of the goat resonates louder than the hoot of the owl, and perhaps even louder than some of your relatives at family gatherings. Published in 1996 by Farming Press—an establishment dedicated to the noble art of agricultural enlightenment—this tome is an ode to those creatures who seem to embody both chaos and charisma in equal measure.

As you flip through the pages of this fascinating compendium, you’ll find yourself captivated by the sheer breadth of goat-related knowledge. From the intricacies of goat husbandry to their ability to stand on the highest of rocks while maintaining an air of unflappable superiority, Hetherington has truly outdone herself. Who knew that these horned wonders could be such delightful thespians of the animal kingdom? With an impressive array of photos that capture goats in all their glory—balancing precariously on fences, engaging in spirited debate with the local dog, or simply contemplating the meaning of life while chewing on a patch of grass—this book is a visual feast for the goat enthusiast and the casual reader alike.

And let’s not forget the extensive chapters that dive into the nutritional and emotional needs of goats. Did you ever wonder if your goat requires a therapist? Well, wonder no more! Hetherington tackles the pressing issues of goat mental health, suggesting that perhaps what they really need is a buddy or perhaps just a sufficiently high pile of hay. There’s a surprising depth to these creatures that goes well beyond their rebellious nature and penchant for escaping enclosures. Goats, it seems, are not just livestock; they are emotionally complex beings who might just be plotting world domination—or at least the overthrow of the backyard garden.

Those seeking wisdom on goat breeding will find themselves in the right place, as Hetherington provides insights that will make any aspiring goat owner weep with joy—or perhaps confusion. The philosophical discussions on goat genetics are as fascinating as they are bewildering. One could argue that this book is a treatise on how to turn your backyard into a veritable goat utopia, complete with their own private spa (which, judging by the author’s enthusiasm, might just be a kiddie pool filled with mud). What could be more delightful than sipping tea while watching your goats frolic in their bespoke living arrangements?

In an era where self-help books and life coaches abound, perhaps we should heed the wisdom of Hetherington and look to our goat friends for guidance. With their carefree attitudes and insatiable curiosity, goats may just hold the key to a more fulfilling existence. But don’t take our word for it; let this book guide your journey into the world of caprine camaraderie. Or at the very least, it’s a perfect conversation starter at your next book club meeting—just be prepared for some raised eyebrows and possibly a few bleats of disapproval.

Condition: This literary masterpiece is well-loved and bears the marks of a life well-lived. It may show signs of wear, with a few dog-eared pages and mysteriously stained covers, but isn’t that the charm of a second-hand book? Just think of it as a testament to the countless hours someone has spent delighting in goat antics, possibly while sipping tea in a cozy nook, dreaming of a goat utopia. Often, the best stories are the ones with a bit of character, and this one certainly has some tales to tell.

So, whether you’re a goat aficionado, a curious reader, or someone simply looking to impress at your next gathering, "All About Goats" stands ready to enlighten you. Pick it up at Crappy Old Books—where every page turn is an adventure ripe with the unexpected and occasionally absurd. Who knows, you might just find your new favorite companion in caprine literature!
